Blu DeTiger shares ‘Feel Good,’ a bass-driven boogie-sleaze single with a video shot aboard a vintage DC-6 plane over NYC
Blu DeTiger has never been interested in staying grounded, so she made her new video 20,000 feet in the air. On August 14, the New York bassist and singer shared “Feel Good,” a mid-tempo, bass-forward single accompanied by a video shot aboard a vintage DC-6 plane soaring above New York City. Produced by The Outfit, the duo of Robin Hannibal and Dan Edinberg, the track deepens the “boogie sleaze” sound DeTiger has been chasing across her recent run, and it functions as both a mission statement and a flex.
The song is built from the low end up, exactly as her records tend to be. “‘Feel Good’ puts the boogie in boogie sleaze,” DeTiger says. “It’s a mid-tempo bop that has this raw, live energy, the kind of song you put on while strutting down a sunny city street and suddenly feel a little more alive.” That live energy is not an accident. The track centres her bass alongside live drums, guitar and percussion, a deliberately organic arrangement that pushes against the fully programmed textures dominating so much of pop right now.
Bass As The Main Character
What makes DeTiger compelling is that the bass is never a supporting player in her music, it is the lead. “The bass line is the heart of it,” she explains, “with live drums, guitar and percussion giving the track its movement and pulse. It’s fun, confident and made to move to.” That philosophy is the through line of her whole career. She first broke out during the 2020 pandemic, going viral on TikTok with slap-heavy bass covers of tracks by artists like Ariana Grande and Cardi B, translating short-form clips into a genuine artist project.
From there, she became one of alt-pop’s most in-demand players, a bassist-for-hire for the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Caroline Polachek and Dominic Fike, appearing with Bleachers on Saturday Night Live and turning up in Rodrigo’s “Driving Home 2 U” film. Her 2024 debut album “All I Ever Want Is Everything” cemented the transition from viral instrumentalist to fully realized frontperson, blending club music, funk, disco, rock and pop into something that could only be hers. “Feel Good,” following recent singles “Shock!” and “Whisper,” extends that world.
From The Feed To The Festival Stage
The visual matches the ambition of the sound. DeTiger made the “Feel Good” video in partnership with Red Bull, and the airborne concept is the whole point. “I’m also really excited to share the music video I made with Red Bull, which brings that feeling of being on top of the world to life,” she says. It is a literal rendering of a figurative idea, the rush of a song that makes you feel invincible, staged at cruising altitude.
That momentum carries into a strong live stretch. DeTiger is set to support Thundercat, one of the few bassists on the planet whose instrument-forward stardom mirrors her own, on a run of US dates, a pairing that reads like a summit of low-end virtuosos. She will also play a hometown show at All Things Go NYC at Forest Hills Stadium on September 25. For an artist who built a career on making the bass the star, sharing stages with Thundercat and taking her sound to the skies feels less like a stunt than a natural next altitude. “Feel Good” is Blu DeTiger doing what she does best, proving the groove can carry everything.
